National average resumes descent- how long?

GasBuddy Blog -- It's the million dollar question as we head towards Christmas and the New Year- how long will the national average continue to drop? Well, to be blunt, we don't know exactly. We can venture a guess, certainly, but to ascertain the exact price of gasoline or how long the drop will last is difficult.

I wasn't a believer that the national average would continue a strong downward drop going into Christmas, and I've backed off on that prediction slightly, saying a national average of $3.25-$3.35/gal is possible by Christmas. And while the average has now fallen under $3.40/gal, its possible that things fizzle out and hold where they are for the time being.

Gasoline prices can undergo an "identity crisis" if you will during this...

lower gas prices always good, we should use our natural gas reserves for all diesel engines also.

wow, I spoke too soon. Diesel dropped from 4.09 (highest around my route for a while) to 3.95 today. Maybe there's a drop in the future?

That's true, diesel hasn't come down much at all, there's a $.60 drop from diesel to regular.

gasoline may drop, but diesel seems to be on the up, up, up... that means, the economy will take a lot longer to recover.

Who is fooling who?
prices in my area went up 20 cents
my favorite station went from 2.919 to 3.099 in the span of a tank of gas.
even the walmart/murry station raised its prices twice in the past week.

National averages may be falling slightly, but local averages are remaining stable in many locations.

Oil at $90 a barrel should have gas prices below $3 a gallon - I like the prediction - prices will go down or may stay the same. With predictions like that I could make a fortune as a fortune teller.

With crude approaching $90 a barrel, look for it to go back up, especially with Christmas and New Year"s coming in 3 weeks.

Remember, The Gov makes more money on a gallon of gas than the company that found the oil, drilled for it, pumped it out, moved it to refinery, converted it in to Gasoline, delivered it to you local Gas Station and allow you to fill up your car.

IN THIS CASE WHAT GOES DOWN WILL COME BACK UP. The people can only do so much & no matter how little fuel we use the Speculators & suppliers WILL just keep charging more per unit so they end up making the same amount of money. It won't matter what the fuel is the population must have & use Energy to survive. As long as the Gov. Allows. uncontrolled Speculation on commodities, doesn't restrict export or apply a high enough export tax, and allows oligopolies to control prices, they WILL seize control of any energy source & continue to hold the people hostage. Part of the Gov. Job is to protect the people from what they can't individually protect themselves, such as all of these things I outlined, & they are not doing that.
