Industries try to stop higher-ethanol fuel

USA Today -- A coalition of oil and food industry groups filed a petition with the Supreme Court Thursday asking it to overturn a lower court decision that said they didn't have standing to sue over a federal decision to allow more ethanol in fuel.

API and the Grocery Manufacturers Association were joined by groups representing the meat, pork and chicken industries in the petition because of the effect increased use of corn for fuel has on the prices the food industry has to pay for feed and raw materials. Corn is used in the production of ethanol.

The groups also claim EPA approved E15 before testing by the oil and auto industries had been completed. Earlier industry testing showed E15 could damage engines and cause vehicles that use it to break down. The groups say that's true even in the 2001 and

Ethanol is a three-way loser. It would be super if these groups have enough clout to get the RFS overturned as well as the E15 rule. We can all cheer for Big Oil just this once.

The food industry is complaining about the higher price of corn for their factory-farmed animals, but generally those animals shouldn't be eating corn products (and byproducts) at all. It's not their natural, healthy diet and the products that come from these corn-fed animals is making people sick. Profit trumps common sense daily. Oh, and yeah, I'm not keen to see higher-ethanol fuels forced on my vehicle that's not designed for it. Great for systems designed to withstand it, but I can't afford repairs brought on by political foolishness...

We produce enough food for this country but we have a distribution problem. ETOH mixed into fuels for motors not intended to burn it is a bad idea promulgated by the government. The food distribution problem is made worse by politics. Get the gummint out of the picture.

No plain old gasoline anymore. But I'm sure it doesn't do any good for the engine. AND it doesn't get as many mpg as plain old gas.
