Las Crucens turn out for low gas prices

KFOX14 LAS CRUCES, N.M. — -- Cars waited in lines stretching into the street Tuesday to take advantage of the unusually low gas prices at Murphy Express at the intersection of Avendia de Mesilla and Valley Drive.

"I can't believe it," Las Crucen Michelle Neal said. "I was in my seat and said, 'Does that really say $2.27?"

Murphy Express dropped 30 cents Tuesday from Monday when it was around $2.57 a gallon.

The manager told KFOX14 prices are controlled by the corporate office in Arkansas and it's a decision that definitely helped with business Tuesday.

"I think it'll help everybody tremendously," Las Crucen Steve Miller said. "This will give people extra money to buy presents for family."

Some driver said they wanted between five and 15 minutes.

Take it back to the 1960's where gas was 36.9 cents a gallon around here and we'll see how long the line gets...

With today's crude oil price of $89.66 USD per barrel and the US dollar at 99¢ CAD, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Ottawa, Ontario should be $1.08 per litre at normal profit margins.

At a price of $1.18 per litre, you are paying 10¢ per litre in pure excess profit. Across Canada, an extra margin of 10¢ per litre generates an additional profit of 10.11 million dollars per day.

Still $5.31 per gallon in our region...

If they can do it, why can't other stations in other states (and Canada) follow suit?

Bear in mind this nice price break is due to "Fiscal Cliff" concerns.

The idiots you voted for for Congress as well as for your President have already guaranteed a recession next year. Their arguing has caused market instability (a precursor to a recession).

Enjoy, the prices, enjoy the a recession next year.
